System architecture

The system consists of a few components:

  • Microcontroller samples sensor and uploads data.
  • Level sensor can measure the level of the barrel.
  • 12V regulator supplies the level sensor with the required voltage, and enables shutting down the sensor to conserve power.
  • Solar panel provides the (intermittent) power input to the system.
  • Battery stores energy for when the solar panel does not output.
  • Power management ensures that the battery is charged when power is enabled and ensure the microcontroller receives enough power.
  • Cloud that will receive the data and present to user.

All physical parts are enclosed in a protective enclosure. There are two physical ports to the enclosure:

  • Between the solar panel and the power management IC.
  • The sensor probe
